    Old, it seems, 4th and 5th digit indicate that it is from Week 10. (mine is too )

    that is week 10 of 2010...new bootrom most likely...3gs wasn't released until mid 2009...google "how to determine iPhone iBoot" and determine that way as that is the only way to know for sure

    359.3 = old 359.3.2= new

    Week ten since release, not week ten of any year. I have a similar serial number.. checked iBoot, and it is 359.3. Sadly, it was vanilla 3.1.3 so no JB for me.

    that is because yours is a refurb...the 0 means 2010 if it was a 9 then that would be 2009....the 3rd number is year, 4th and 5th are week...it has nothing to do with "weeks since release"

    No need to be a jackass That was my best estimate, either way mine has the old bootrom.. which I assume in the future means possibly less of a hassle. His should be the old bootrom as well, it has a very similar sn.

    Best way to check is to go to apple warranty web page and once you put in your serial number it will prompt you the expiry date of your warranty .. so you can do the math here )
    yes its long but its the most surest way my friends ..

    Hey j3st,

    quick question my serial is 88935**** thats old boot right?

    also is it true that once you upgraded it doesn't matter what bootrom you are you have to wait for a possible JB for 3.1.3?

    thanks for your help

    I'm not j3st, but I think I can answer your questions

    Yes, judging by the serial number, your phone has the old bootrom (I still think everyone should check the iBoot version to be sure) and you're correct, once you're on 3.1.3, it doesn't matter which bootrom you have. The only chance you have to jailbreak is if you have your 3.1.2 (or lower) SHSH files stored and downgrade using those.

    The easiest way is just to try a downgrade where you point iTunes to Saurik's server. If you simply want to check if they're there, you can use the Firmware Umbrella tool. You'll need to find your device's ECID number and then type that into the tool. Then ask for the 3.1.2 files from Saurik's server. If they're there, a small ~65kb file will appear in umbrella tool directory. If they're not, a small error message will appear at the bottom of the window.

    You can find the Umbrella Firmware here: The Firmware Umbrella
