I recently purchased an iPhone 3GS off of eBay and it's in very good condition. The only problem is that the guy upgraded it to firmware 4.0 before he sent it, and I wasn't aware that you couldn't downgrade to 3.1.3 unless you had jailbroken it beforehand and saved the SHSH blobs to Saurik's server.

My question is, will there ever be a hack around this? Is waiting for a complete exploit just a fantasy or are the teams working on it now? Should I return the phone?

The baseband is 5.13.04 and the bootloader is 6.4.

    Model number MB717.

I am also blocked out of using it as an iPod because I had accidentally done a restore which reset the activation.

What about shsh files? Maybe iPhone has it. Try to restore pointing iTunes to Cydia.

Thank you so much, it seems as if the iPhone is restoring.

You can always check what SHSH files (if any) are stored for your phone with umbrella.

Yup. Everything worked perfectly. I didn't even know the blobs were saved, and I guess I'm lucky they were.
