Ugh this is so frustrating. Is there a guide on this site that describes how to downgrade? My 3g is running SLOW. It's a 3g, 8gb

If you jailbroken now, then downgrade to a custom firmware. Custom firmware is not just meant for upgrade , it can used to downgrade to.

So I just go through the jailbreaking process and use the 3.1.3 restore file instead while using redsnow? That's it?

If u want to jailbreak at 3.1.3, then download snowbreeze 1.5.2 and create a snowbreeze.3.1.3.ipsw. Now restore your already jailbroken 4.0 iPhone to the snowbreeze. Ipsw by doing shift+ restore

Note: if u are at stock fw, you can't use this method

It's jailbroken firmware already. Is there any problem with using redsnow? Or should I go ahead and do snowbreeze?

And by jailbroken firmware, I mean I upgraded the phone using itunes to 4.0.1, then jailbroke it using redsnow, then unlocked it. I assume it's not "stock" firmware...

Yes, put your iphone into recovery mode and go ahead and restore to Snowbreeze cfw to downgrade. Let me know how it goes.

yeow, I actually just went ahead and restored with 4.0.1 again but unchecked "multitasking" and the background option and the phone seems to be running fine. Thanks for your help and I'll let you know if I end up downgrading.

How did you unlock? I did just this same thing, but can not unlock. I keep getting errors in Cydia.
