I have a 3GS that is now unfortunately on 4.0.2 and am having trouble getting it back on 4.0.1 or any other jailbreakable firmware. I have shsh blobs for several passed fw's on file with cydia and have my host files pointed there to sign in the restore verification process. I am running Windows 7

I've done this many times but this last time when my device locked up and I went to restore , it wouldn't get passed the verification process and give me the error 3164 or whatever error points to your firware not being signed.

Any help would be appreciated, basically I want to downgrade my 3gs from 4.0.2 to 4.0.1 with my blobs on file
    with cydia

    Thanks D

Use the tss server from TU.
    Download the latest TU.
    Plug in your Iphone.
    Click Advanced Option.
Device/Version select the OS shsh you want to grab.
    Request from select Cydia.
Wait, if the message says successful
Click Display shsh, you will see it there.
Device/Version select the OS version of your Iphone to be restored.
Put your Iphone into DFU mode.
    Start TSS Server.
Do the Shift + Restore to the OS you want to restore and must correspond to the exact firmware under Device/Version you have selected.
    Sit back and relax.
If everything goes well, you will be downgraded to the intended firmware.

    Run TinyUmbrella as administrator.

i only run as admin as i am the only one who uses this pc and i have done a portscan and it appears that port 80 is open. However when tiny umbrella opens this is the message in the info window

Then just right click on TU and select "run as administrator". That'll probably do the trick. Oh, and find out what's listening on Port 80, like skype.

Still looks like it's not run as administrator.

If you don't want to bother with it, you can manually edit the hosts file and add this line

    74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com

And then just do the shift-restore in iTunes. Since you have 5 SHSHs stored, they're also stored on Cydia's server and you can use that to restore through instead of getting TU to work.

I got it! Like i said i've done this at least 20 times before and just couldn't figure out why this time it just stopped working. Well at some point before the last attempt i had changed my host files into a .txt file therefore negating the whole damn thing. Luckily i had a backup of the original host file and just replaced it and BAM its back on 4.0.1

Thanks for the help on this one everybody! The walls of these threads are an infinite realm of knowledge and have helped me learn along the way through reading first, then trial and error. This and google of course ;0
