Try in dfu mode and if it's still not working and like u say all else is good. Then try on another computer as there are known problems with 32bit. Try a pc running 62 bit. Hth.

It is actually other way around. There are issues with 64 bit windows not 32 bit. Although it should still work on either. Try a dfu restore like sailor girl suggested.

You can try editing your hosts to point to cydia and dfu restoring instead of using tiny umbrella. Or try another computer.

    I stand corrected.

Stupid question, when you click "Display SHSHs" in Umbrella, do you see your specific device type (3GS) firmware version (4.0.1/8A306) and ECID in decimal notation displayed?

3002 errors from iTunes usually mean that the system couldn't come up with SHSH blobs for your device from the "server" i.e., TinyUmbrella. Also, worth noting I've heard that attempting to update rather than restore when using Umbrella/Cydia can cause this (but since you're downgrading, I don't think this is the problem).

ok orbyorb you just got me thinking that the right shsh blobs might not be saved. Here is the situation; i bought the phone used and it had 4.0.1 installed i used jailbreakme.com to jailbreak it and pressed the make my life easier on cydia to save the blobs. Now this phone has never been jailbroken before until yesterday so am thinking since the 4.0.1 software is old is it not possible to save the blobs because apple is not signing them anymore? Could i possible be going into DFU more wrong? hold power and home for ten second then release power keep holding home and the screen should remain black? Am not sure whats going on i even tried a different computer and same error.

Apple stopped signing SHSH for 4.0.1 on August 19th (Although there were "phantom" SHSH being signed for 4.0.1 while 4.0.2 was still being signed but I think that stopped now that 4.1 is out and 4.0.2 stopped being signed) You say you just jailbroke and pressed make my life easier yesterday right? That means you dont have SHSH for 4.0.1 and if you try and restore will be forced to update to 4.1

Yep, if you only saved SHSH as of yesterday, you're not going to be able to restore to 4.0.1, your only choice is 4.1 (which if you're needing an unlock, I'd strongly advise you to avoid, same for a jailbreak--don't touch it).

    Gotta love Apple, eh?
