If someone could do this it would be one of the best time wasting toys of all time..

An app that uses the accelerometer to splash water around, or even sand. something like this

and when u move the phone around the water moves

Water physics are hard as *HELL* to make even on a computer, let alone an iPhone. Sand would be really laggy because you'd probably need 10,000 grains, and each of them needs to have collision detection against each other, we haven't even gotten 2 balls to detect collision against each other yet. Good concept though, I suggest we start with an hour glass or something.

I think an advanced version of Bounce will do the job, even so it will be much harder to make.

What about that game called falling sand game? I know there was a version for pocket pc it was called pocket sand. I had it on my ppc-6700 and it worked flawlessly. I know pocket pcs and the iphone are totally different devices, but could that be done on an iphone?

This thread just got me thinking. What about a spirit level app? That could be cool to play with and could actually be useful?

Your first screen shot looks like a 3D simulation but I don't think it was in realtime. There are several open-source projects which render/simulate liquids though but porting them to iPhone wouldn't be so "photorealistic".

I was thinking about another solution to make this possible : the iPhone send his accelerometer data to a super-computer grid and get back the rendered pictures...
(it will cost you an arm and a leg this way to have a liquid flow on your iPhone :-))

Another thing, I actually did an advanced version of Bounce (through a Snake game dev) with multiple objects collision detection.

I've just updated the version to alpha 0.2.5 : (to add more realistic bounce effect).

By the way I've tested the repository (http://prog.cedsoft.free.fr) : it's up and worked fine for me...

Making a unravelling snake "gameover" was a pretext to add multi-objects collision for me
(I've started developping it from the Bounce app sources)

I had another ideas for your water app : make ripples of the screen when you (multi)touch it.

Exemple from the mac water screensaver :

I've just created a new thread for my iSnake project (not to make noise in your original post)
    http://modmyi.com/forums/newthread.p...ostthread&f=29

By the way, I've just added :
    - Sound,
    - Vibrating,
    - Splash Screen
    - Menu

What's amazing is the app name was available.
Here is the link to the app:
iSand - iPhone sand art simulator

I hope you enjoy, BTW it's much better on the 3GS with more particles.
