Has anyone stumbled upon a piece of code or specifications about the interaction between the iPhone and iTunes?

I use mainly Linux and would really like to develop an application which allows me to just browse to my server and then download ringtones to the iPhone. Or perhaps the "download" is not a correct term here. Maybe syncing the ringtones without iTunes would be more appropriate.

I assume the "language" between the iTunes and the iPhones is XML of some variation. Also I assume some sort of headers are needed in order to initiate and continue with the sync action.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!
(Winblows in VMware and/or iTunes on Xover-office are not solutions)

Not exactly a web server, but it is a linux app.

    Try here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Po...Devices/iPhone
    and here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=588246

As for ringtones, just sync it as a song, then use SendSong to send it over to ringtones.

    Thanks.... Quite interesting reading....
While these instructions may work on the desktop computer, it would still be quite difficult to do on a headless system (No display), which I was planning of using. That way I would have access to my tunes from wherever networks are available.

Especially instructions here https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Po...Devices/iPhone seem quite well organized.

So far everything points to the direction where one actually have to develop an iPhoney application which will then communicate with the server. Safari on the phone is so badly crippled that it is almost useless.

    Any other pointers?

Ah, on a headless system. That may be, unfortunately, much more difficult to accomplish.

Sorry, can't help ya here. My only headless system (my server), is locked away in a data center without USB, lol.
