I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to purchase netshare when it was available, however, I have not been able to get it to work on my vista comp.

Anyone successful in getting netshare to work on a vista comp?

I have searched and searched for an answer to the same question, haven't found an answer yet.

I have tried EVERYTHING, it has to be VISTA.

If you find an answer, please PM me, and also post it for others to see. I'll do the same.
    Thanks

I've been running it on Vista for a while now, but I use Firefox.

Here's how it works for me:

Step 0 (To be done the first time only):
    Network Connections Control Panel
    Right-Click "Wireless Network Connection"
    Click Properties
Select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
    Click Properties
    Click "Alternate Configuration"
    Select "User Configured"
    IP address:
    192.168.10.2
    gateway:
    255.255.255.0
    Click OK

    Step 1:
Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center
    Click "Connect to a network"
    Select ad-hoc network

    Step 2:
Connect iPhone to the wireless network you just created
    Set the IP to static
    IP address:
    192.168.10.1
    gateway:
    255.255.255.0

    Step 3:
    Open up Netshare

    Step 4:
    Open Firefox
    Click on Tools-> Options...
    Click on the advanced tab
    Click Settings
    Set up the proxy manually
    Socks: 192.168.10.1
    Port 1080

    Step 5:
Open a new tab, or window and type "about:config" (Without the quotes)
    Do a search for "socks"
    Change

    network.proxy.socks_remote_dns;false
    to
    network.proxy.socks_remote_dns;true

    Restart Firefox

    All done!

    This works for me everytime.

Also make sure the phone does not go to sleep, or use insomnia to keep the connection active.

OK, I found it. Changed settings, and still no go. Rotaryheadrx7, I PM'd you.

This actually works, not sure why, Safari is using IE connection. I don't understand why IE7 and Firefox won't connect. Anyways, you have to download Safari for this to work. Thank you fddc for the link.
Also thank you rotaryheadrx7 for the tutorail, unfortunately i couldn't get Firefox to work on my comp.

Sorry it didn't work for ya, its what I do every time. From my experience with networking (I'm an engineer and play with these things a lot) sometimes after changing settings (step 0) the operating system likes to be restarted...

Either way looks like you got safari working and much easier than firefox so I guess its a moot point.

    Happy tethering!

If you have purchased a tethering plan from AT&T this is legal; however, it is illegal if you have not, and as far as I know there are no tethering plans available for the iPhone 3G.

i followed rotaryheadrx7 tutorial and it worked, but there's some quirks. like some sites (engadget, digg, gizmodo, etc.) won't load. it either prompts me to save a file or just doesn't do anything.

but other than that everything works great! this is so useful

Is there a way to get this (or 3proxy) to work on IE7 in Vista?

You can set it up the same way as you would for windows XP but you would need proxifier to connect.
