mobilechat does, or rather it is supposed to, but they are having issues with their servers right now so frequent disconnections are common.

mobilechat is the one you want. like an above poster said though - they are still working out a few issues (its definitely gotten much better since launch) but it isn't perfect yet. I'd get mobilechat if I were you, they should have the issues worked out soon.

no no no... the SDK agreement specifies you cannot have an app running in the background as it takes up too many resources. So your answer is neither. JB your device and download something diff.

Mobilechat is very good, even works when you're not even on Edge.. well, when you're on.. bluebox with white circle and only a couple bars.

I am very impressed, although it is quite glitchy.

Palringo took way too long to connect

incorrect, mobilechat uses server-side logins of your screen name, which keeps you connected when the app is closed. It delivers notifications of the existence of new messages via email or sms, and those messages are sent to your phone once you re-open the app.

yes, but the app isnt "alive" while in other apps it just logs you on, on their server (scarry...) and keeps the screenname logged in... The sms alerts/emails are kinda cheesy but I was talking about litterally running in the background.

well, the question was which app keeps you on-line, and mobilechat is the app that does just that.

beyond that though, having such an app run in the background all the time is a terrible idea. Actually, this is exactly what previous versions of mobilechat did, and all that accomplishes is draining your battery incredibly fast, and having a very unreliable connection that is susceptible to frequent disconnections as your signal strength and type vary while you move with your phone.

Also, the SMS and email notifications are only a temporary measure until apple releases their push notification system - at that point mobilechat will beep and automatically update the app badge, just like the way push mail works now.
