In every key note Jobs has spoken to the public about the iPhone. It's always been about the public consumer. Yesterdays keynote was focused entirely on the commercial customers of the iphone with NO mention of the lowly consumers at all.

What was supposed to be a model business plan to sell apps developed by apple for the iphone was burned to the ground by hackers breaking the iphone in two weeks or less every time a new firmware was released.

Quite honestly I believe Jobs gave up, released the SDK so he could make SOME money off the apps rather than none, and started to shift focus to corporate applications instead and leave the hackers to play with the general public.

I think SDK was always in the works, they just needed to figure out the best way to do it securely. This mobile OS is fairly new grounds for them, after all.

I believe the SDK was coming, but I disagree that they would have released it freely to the public. I think before they gave in it would have likely gone out to larger devs like the corporations that were discussed in the keynote.

This is an easy debate thread, but I am slightly leaning towards an accord with you.

Thats why you go mitsubishi hehe, and really honestly i thought the sdk was always in the works. Steve seemed to get upset reading our forums Probably successful jailbreak after jailbreak you know and hes all about money so heres our new sdk i will never pay for an app. If anything ill code my own to my liking and keep them to myself if it goes that route.... Installer all the way.... SIN

Really, if he releases a SDK, a large part of the iphone community would lose interest in 'hacking' their firmware. Maybe this would make future software unlocks take longer to be developed.

The way I see this going Steve Jobbs did the right thing he knows all about installer.app and knows this community is massive so what is the best way to not have to keep dealing with people jailbreaking there iphones thats simple making your own "installer.app" program and they did just that so now people can add there free programs through the official apple release and people can install these pgorams no problem I think many of the programs we use now will be pushed to the apple version. Like Steve jobbs said if you make the app free we charge you nothing and take care of all the costs!

    Pretty good deal!

I can't disagree with the OP anymore on this one; I believe that this was in the works from its' inception. Do you really think that Apple would not want to create apps and then have the community create apps, allowing apple to mooch a certain % off of them? The 'hackers' didn't 'win'. Though they kick plenty of ***! And the iPhone has been PWN'd officially now
