Yesterday Amazon updated their Kindle iOS app to version 3.6.1. The update was intended to fix a number of bugs as well as address the registration process bug. Unfortunately something went wrong along the way and Amazon has warned users that the update seems to be deleting Amazon digital libraries and saved settings.
Users reported that once they updated the app, they were logged out of their accounts, and everything they had downloaded is deleted from their devices. Users are also losing bookmarks and other settings, just take a peek at the reviews on iTunes.
While it's not the end of the world, as the content is still available. The user must log back in to Kindle and re-download their books from the cloud. While this fix works, many are still complaining that they had to re-install the app entirely for it to even acknowledge purchased content.
"Note: There is a known issue with this update. If you are an existing Kindle for iOS user, we recommend you do not install this update at this time."
An Amazon spokeswoman told CNET that the company has identified the issue with the app update that may cause the app to become deregistered. She noted that to register again, users have to enter their Amazon account e-mail address and password and all content will be available in the cloud.
"We have submitted an update fix for this issue and are working with Apple to release," she said.
