• Pod2g: No iOS 6.1.3 Jailbreak Any Time Soon, Waiting for a Major iOS Release

iOS hacker pod2g has made it publicly known that the evad3rs are not working on a jailbreak for Apple’s latest software update, which is iOS 6.1.3. The hacker notes in the Tweet above that it would be too much work to implement a jailbreak for such a minimal iOS update designed simply to patch the exploits used in the current evasi0n untethered iOS 6 jailbreak. Rather, it would make more sense to use up valuable exploits on a larger firmware update – perhaps iOS 7, which is reportedly running later than expected because of a large overhaul.

One thing we heard over and over as we all waited for the evasi0n jailbreak was that it is getting harder and harder to jailbreak iOS with each new release. Apple has stepped up their security, and because of this, finding exploits is no easy task. On the other hand, Apple also continues to introduce new features in iOS with each new release, which opens the door for new potential exploits.

Both the evad3rs hacker team, and iOS hacker p0sixninja (Joshua Hill) have revealed that they have a stockpile of iOS exploits at the ready. The evad3rs have made it perfectly clear that they plan to save them for a major iOS release (possibly iOS 7). P0sixninja, who claims he has enough exploits to create his own jailbreak if he wanted to, also revealed that he would rather save his exploits for iOS 7.0 or possibly even iOS 7.1.x.

Right now, iOS 6.1.3 cannot be jailbroken untethered with evasi0n. On the other hand, those with an iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G, or iPhone 3GS can still jailbreak tethered on iOS 6.1.3 with redsn0w (untethered for iPhone 3GS if it has the old bootrom). It is expected that Apple may release additional minor software updates before we see iOS 7, which also probably will not be jailbroken untethered.

These minor software updates are expected to only continue to improve iOS security, especially since the software update (iOS 6.1.3), which was designed to fix a lock screen security issue on top of other security fixes, introduced yet another lock screen security issue that Apple will likely want to fix in the future with yet another software update.

If you are jailbroken right now and you’re happy with it, we recommend that you just sit tight where you are and enjoy the large library of tweaks, themes, and applications that Cydia has to offer. There is no reason to update to iOS 6.1.3 if you haven’t already. Those already on iOS 6.1.3 will just have to be patient, and wait for the next major release of iOS to be jailbroken.

Everyone was told not to update to 6.1.3 because it stopped the jailbreak.

You shouldn't have updated if you were already on 6.1.2. I waited to get my 5 until the jb was released. I do think that while the devs are not working on jb's they should consider trying to find a way to downgrade newer devices. I'm so scared to install anything new from Cydia because idw to lose my jb if something happens and it needs a restore.

      Can someone explain to me....

      I have a iPhone 5 on 6.1 jailbroke.

If I don't care about 6.1.2 or 6.1.3, why should I be concerned there is no jailbreak for 6.1.3?

If my phone crashes and I need to restore, can't I restore to 6.1 or has that been changed since the iPhone 4 days?

It's been changed if something happens to ya iPhone 5 you would have to go to 6.1.3

you would be out of luck. You could only restore to 6.1.3. So be careful. In iPhone 3, 3S and 4 days there was a bootrom exploit which allowed downgrades. That all ended at 4S. No more downgrading.

I can't remember the last time I got in to a boot loop or anything similar and couldn't get out of it one way or another either by uninstalling using a file browsing tool all disabling mobile substrate and doing it that way.

Most of the time a tweak will cause the problem either poorly coded or conflicting with another you have so remove that tweak and all (should be good) I've uninstalled tweaks via terminal to get out of boot loops.

Just a little info. I'm not saying this is definetly going to work if it happens to you but like I said I've never lost a jb because I've used one of those methods.

      I can't remember any time I lost a jb.

But these seem like different times.

Sure can! Go to evasi0n iOS 6.x Jailbreak - official website of the evad3rs and get the most recent jailbreak tool. Have fun!

if you were on 6.1.2 jailbroken and you just randomly updated to 6.1.3 without checking first if evasi0n was going to support it or if Apple changed anything major to it thus patching the exploits, that's your own fault.

Today I used the latest version of redsn0w to Jailbreak a iPhone 3GS on the latest firmware 6.1.3. The iPhone is untethered on 6.1.3, however after using iTunes to restore and update my phone to 6.1.3 in order to achieve the jailbreak I used a custom unmodified 6.0 IPSW when I manually selected the IPSW to jailbreak with. I achieved an untethered jailbreak successfully. Next I was also able to downgrade from using the iPad baseband 06.15 to 05.13.04 and achieve a successful unlock using ultrasn0w 1.2.8
