• Tim Cook Promises More 'Game Changers' at D11

All Things Digital’s Kara Swisher and Walt Mossberg didn't just toss softballs at Apple CEO Tim Cook tonight as the annual D11 conference began. In fact, Cook found himself in the hot seat and pressed for some difficult answers on more than one occasion.

Cook, at one point, was asked about the explosion of Android's popularity and market share in recent months. The Apple boss, however, professed to not be shaken by the little green robot.

"Do I look at that? Of course, I don't have my head stuck in the sand," Cook replied when asked if he monitors Android's progress on the global scale. "But for us, winning has never been about having the most... Arguably, we make the best PC, but we don't make the most. We made the best music player, and we wound up making the most -- but we didn't initially."

Not surprisingly, Cook was also pressed on the recent issue of Apple's overseas cash placement seen as a diversionary tactic designed to mitigate Apple's tax burden in the United States. "We don't use tax gimmicks," Cook asserted again tonight, reiterating some of the points made during last week's high-profile Senate hearing.

Cook was even asked about Apple's perceived lack of innovation lately and whether or not the Cupertino-based tech giant has "lost its cool."

“Absolutely not,” Cook retorted. “We have some incredible plans that we’ve been working on for a while…I think we have several more game changers in us.”

Although Cook was asked for views on everything from Google Glass, smart-watches, and even connected TVs, he provided no indication of which of these product categories Apple may venture into next.

I'm unconvinced that a former supply chain expert knows what "innovation" is, but I'm willing and eager to be shown otherwise.
