After being delayed for over two months, “SimCity” is finally looking to make its Mac debut at the end of August following its rocky PC launch with network connectivity and overall quality issues. The game publishers, Electronic Arts and Maxis recently announced the Mac release date via the official SimCity Twitter account, stating the hotly anticipated title would be available starting August 29.
EA originally planned to release SimCity for the Mac in June as an exclusive digital download through the company’s origin service. In an ambitious undertaking, SimCity planned to have cross-platform collaboration between both Mac and PC players. However, the game’s digital rights management (DRM) implementation required a persistent connection to the Internet, even during single player mode, which ended up overwhelming the game servers at launch.
Both EA and Maxis ended up stating that SimCity wasn’t “ready for primetime,” and ended up delaying the release. Now set as August 29, it’s still unknown if the publishers will be making downloadable content that is available to PC users accessible on the Mac at launch but this is something that will likely be resolved rather quickly.
Are any of you planning to pick it up?
