In what looks to be a way to overshadow Apple’s anticipated fall iPhone announcement, Samsung is supposedly preparing the so-called “Galaxy Gear” wearable computing device for an unveiling at its “Unpacked Episode 2” event scheduled for early September. SamMobile, a blog which covers Samsung mobile devices, claims to “confirm” that the South Korean electronics company will reveal its rumored smart watch at the event on September 4 in Berlin.
The special media event was previously expected to showcase the company’s next-gen Galaxy Note III phablet. According to the publication though, Samsung seems to be veering towards announcing the Galaxy Gear instead. The device is said to act as a companion to existing Samsung Galaxy products. The final design of the rumored device us known but a patent filing reveals what the product may look like.
For those of you who aren’t aware, a U.S. trademark application for “Galaxy Gear” was filed for earlier in August, describing the following:
Wearable digital electronic devices in the form of a wristwatch, wrist band or bangle capable of providing access to the Internet and for sending and receiving phone calls, electronic mails and messages.
We’ll have to wait and see what the smart watches end up looking like as many tech giants are rumored to be working on their own iteration of such a device.
