• Plants vs. Zombies 2 Breaks Record With 25 Million Downloads

Plants vs. Zombies 2, PopCap's sequel to the insanely popular Plants vs. Zombies game, has been doing pretty good for itself since its initial release.

EA announced one week after the initial launch of Plants vs. Zombies 2 that the game had reached 16 million downloads, showing just how popular the game had become in a short period of time.

On Friday, Plants vs. Zombies 2 broke a record by reaching almost 25 million App Store downloads. That amounts to more downloads than the original Plants vs. Zombies game had since its original release in 2010. This largely has to do with the fact that Plants vs. Zombies 2 is a free download in the App Store unlike the original Plants vs. Zombies game, which carried a 99 price tag.

EA also shares some additional interesting facts about the game that they have been keeping score of since the initial release:

    • There have been more than 39,000,000,000 suns generated by players
    • Players have defeated more than 5,400,000,000 waves of zombies
    • Players have planted more than 10,000,000,000 plants
    • Players have spent more than a total of 81,000,000 hours playing the game

Although Plants vs. Zombies 2 is a free game in the App Store, it does offer players a number of in-app purchasable content that can be bought for real world money. Notably, the player does not have to purchase anything to enjoyably play the game, but buying the power-ups can speed up the progress and/or make the game easier.
