• Apple Developing Larger iPhones with Curved Screens and Enhanced Touch Sensors

According to a report from Bloomberg, Apple is developing two next-gen iPhones with larger, curved glass screens set for release late next year. The new iPhones will be featuring displays at 4.7-inches and 5.5-inches, with the report also claiming that Apple is working on enhanced touch sensors that incorporate pressure sensitivity for later iPhone models after next year. The report mentioned the following regarding the matter:

Two models planned for release in the second half of next year will feature larger displays with glass that curves downward at the edges, said the person, declining to be identified as the details arenít public. Sensors that can distinguish heavy or light touches on the screen may be incorporated into subsequent models, the person said.

The new iPhones will be Appleís largest at screens of 4.7 and 5.5 inches, the person said, approaching in size the 5.7-inch Galaxy Note 3 that Samsung Electronics Co. debuted in September. The South Korean maker last month released the curved display Galaxy Round, the latest phone in an array of sizes and price points thatís helped keep it ahead of Apple in global market share.

The new Apple handsets are still in development and plans havenít been completed, the person said, adding that the company will probably release them in the third quarter of next year.
Although Apple routinely develops prototype devices that arenít released, there have been several rumors of an iPhone featuring a significantly larger screen surfacing occasionally throughout the past couple of months. In July and September, The Wall Street Journal reported that Apple had begun testing prototype iPhones with screens as large as six inches and a report last month from NPD DisplaySearch speculated that Apple may be looking to launch both a 4.7-inch and a 5.7-inch iPhone in 2014.

Speculation of larger-sized iPhones continues but there hasnít been any concrete information yet. If such devices were to be released, would you be interested in purchasing them?

I won't believe this, there were reports that the iPhone 5 was supposed to be curved too. A generation after that and still no curved screen. I don't see the benefit to a curved screen.

Honestly I rather not be as big as the galaxy. I used that and felt it was to big for my needs.

That concept in the pic is disgusting and the article title should say "Rumors Are," before the title.

Honestly, I hate the idea of curved phones. I'd rather look at a phone with a flat surface than having to look at one that is curved. Also, I don't think those would look good either

A phone with curved edges looks really cool. Not so much the concept featured above, but SCL has a prototype of one - it looks pretty amazing, or it will once Apple gets their design team on it.

Imagine the phone featured below but with a screen that wrapped all the way around. I think that would be amazing.

I'd rather it just stay like the i5 but get larger in size. I prefer the curves on the ladies than my phone tbh

This is bs. Not only would apple not copy an unnecessary feature, but it's ridiculous that these writers believe sources saying apple is starting to develop for the next year NOW. You should realize how companies develop technology at least 3 years previous to its release. Also apple wouldn't risk a curved screen, first it's already been done, second it's an unnecessary risk of it's like-ability, and third it doesn't help at all. They would be attacked like crazy for copying someone with a needless feature.

For ease of use, I don't see an outer edge curving downward as useable. Instead, a curved edge sloping up would give the same screen real estate AND be comfortable enough to use w/ one hand.

As far as Jahooba's comment, I had that same idea before the ip4S came out. A wraparound screen could be cool but, after thinking about it more, it'd end up being a pain in the butt and people would drop their phones from constantly flipping it over.

Ha! Just looked at pix of the Galaxy Round and that's what I was talking about! Curved up, not down. Allows for a slimmer device w/out losing screen size.

Yeah that prototype in the above picture is very ugly lol I would hate to have an iPhone that looks anything like that. The larger screen would be nice but not as large as the galaxy. I hate holding that big phone!
