• Apple Adds the Ability to Gift Books in the iBooks Store

Just in time for the holidays this year, Apple has enabled the ability to gift digital books via the iBooks Store.

Mac users will find a "Gift this Book" link with a small present icon next to it under the arrow button that is displayed right next to the price tag of the book that they're looking at in the iBooks Store application in OS X Mavericks, as shown above.

Clicking on the link will bring up a field for entering the Apple ID e-mail of the person that you want to gift the book to, a sender name, and a message to go along with the book, such as "Happy Holidays!" The sender can also choose to have the book added to the recipient's account immediately, or after a certain date, such as Christmas.

When gifting a book, the process is very similar to gifting an application in the App Store. The sender's Apple ID will be charged for the value of the book, while the recipient's Apple ID is credited with the book.

If you know anybody that would enjoy the gift of an ebook for Christmas, you can start shopping in the iBooks Store right now. These books can be read on any iOS device or Mac.
