Previously in October, Takashi Tokita, the Square Enix director announced that his team was working on a mobile version of its popular Final Fantasy VI title. According to him, the game will be landing on iOS and Android platforms “this winter.” Unfortunately, that’s about all we know at the moment. The winter timeframe means we may not technically see anything until mid-March.
What we have seen thus far is a couple of screenshots from the game and this week Square Enix posted a trailer. Unfortunately, much like the screenshots, not much information can be obtained from the clip. The trailer only has snipped gameplay video showing in a tiny 20 second window. What we do know is that the game isn’t going to be a straight port of the original. Tokita has said that it’s going to be more “like a remake of the console version of Final Fantasy VI,” with some enhancements and re-polished 2D graphics.
