On Thursday, Microsoft released an important update for Skype for iOS devices, bringing the application up to version 4.17. The update is available for both the iPhone/iPod touch version of the application, and the iPad version of the application. Both are free in the App Store.
The update gives iPhone 5s users the ability to take advantage of two-way HD video calling, and also makes it so that messages synchronize faster and more efficiently across every one of your devices. If you've been using Skype for iOS for some time now, and you do most of your messaging on another device, then you know why this improvement is important. It used to take up to a few minutes for your device to actually show all the messages that you've sent or received on other devices.
Most importantly, Microsoft added true push notifications to Skype in this update. As users launch the application for the first time after updating, they'll get the pop-up above. The update makes it so that even when Skype is not open in the background, users will get push notifications on the lock screen keeping them in the loop with incoming messages.
Existing users of the Skype application for iOS that want to grab this update will find the update under the Updates tab in the App store application. Alternatively, you can download the latest version of Skype for the iPhone and iPod touch for free from this App Store link, or you can download the latest version of Skype for the iPad for free from this App Store link.
