• Report: Narrowing Gap Between iOS and Android on Mobile Ad Supremacy



    According to the findings of a freshly published report from Opera Mediaworks, Android is cutting into Apple's once formidable supremacy in the mobile advertising space.

    Based on the data highlighted in today's report, Android now generates more mobile ad traffic for smartphones than iOS. All told, Android claimed a 36 percent share of all ad impressions during the fourth quarter of 2013. The iPhone, meanwhile, captured a 28.7 percent share.

    Regrettably for Android, however, once the iPad and iPod Touch are factored into the numbers, iOS is still the leader of the pack on mobile advertising.

    Consistent with previous quarters, the United States is driving the majority of ad traffic and revenue on the Opera Mediaworks platform. Frequent followers of our report watched as the U.S. share of this traffic decreased from approximately 64% last year at this time to the current 48.46%. However, in terms of monetization, the United States still drives over 70% of revenue, as it did last year.
    “2013 was a tremendous year for mobile advertising,” reveals Opera Mediaworks chief executive Mahi de Silva. “Many publishers found their smartphone and tablet traffic eclipse their desktop internet traffic, and some even made more money from mobile advertising when compared to desktop.”

      Why would a company want to boast ads? To me, ads are un-needed and clutter the app you are in.

      iOS does not allow you to set the default browser so most people stick with Safari.

      You will be amazed of how much money is generated because of those ads

      It's not supposed to be an advantage to the user. It's business. If a company wants to stay in business, they need to make money. Letting other companies put their ads on websites and apps generates a lot of money for companies. Companies have to think about themselves at times too, not everything can be free and perfect for users while still making a profit.
