Analyst Tavis McCourt from Raymond James, predicted that Apple’s ownership will remain steady in 2014, with Apple’s already existing user base interested in the iPhone 6. The claim was reported by Barron’s and was based off of the quarterly survey by McCourt that looked at U.S. smartphone ownerships. In the survey, approximately half of the respondents claimed they wanted their next smartphone purchase to be an iPhone and 44.4% had their eye on an Android device.
The percent of survey respondents who owned iPhones declined q/q to 52.3% from a high of 56% in December, but was up from 49.4% a year ago. iPhone share likely to continue to be stable: 49.7% of respondents intend to purchase an iPhone for their next smartphone, which is at the low end of the 50% to 55% range witnessed in our survey since we began in June 2012.

Interest in a bigger iPhone was also in McCourt’s survey and 3% of respondents said they were willing to pay more for a larger-screened model:
3% of iPhone users would be willing to pay $100 more for a bigger- screened iPhone (up from 26% in our last survey). With speculation that iPhone 6 will have a bigger screen, it will be interesting to see Apple’s pricing choice.
