• Ahrendts Officially Relieved as Burberry CEO

On Thursday, the Wall Street Journal confirmed that Christopher Bailey has officially taken the reins at Burberry as Angela Ahrendts departs the company in route to her new position at Apple, where she will preside over the tech giant's retail and online sales.

Tim Cook confirmed the forthcoming transition during Apple's recent earnings call.

"We are continuing to invest in our retail stores and since our last call, we had opened our first stores in Brazil and Turkey and we now have retail stores in 15 countries around the world," Cook said at the time. "I'm looking forward to welcoming our new retail and online leader, Angela Ahrendts, who will be joining Apple's Executive Team next week."

Burberry announced the executive change last October although it hasn't been clear how long Ahrendts would remain attached to Burberry. It now appears that the company wanted her around until the very end. In this case, however, Burberry's loss is Apple's gain. The Cupertino, California-based iPhone maker hasn't had a central retail team leader since John Browett was ousted from that position in the fall of 2012.

Ahrendts arrives at Apple just as the company begins to proceed with opening more than two dozen new retail stores domestically and abroad during the current fiscal year.
