It has been discovered recently that a new lock screen bypass in iOS 7 can allow anyone to skip the authentication method. What’s even more surprising, is that anyone can do this in under 5 seconds. It is important to note that the access one could gain on the iOS 7 device is limited and only apps that were running in the foreground before the device was locked can be accessed. However, different levels of privacy can be broken into depending on the app that is running.
In order for the method to work, there needs to be a missed call in the Notification Center and from the lock screen, access the Control Center. Launch any application then lock the device. Next, wake the device up, slide up for the Control Center, put it in airplane mode, pull down for Notification Center and click for the missed call. After doing all this, you should be able to access the app that was running before the device was locked.
The bypass was first discovered by EverythingApplePro, a YouTube channel that did a video on it. You can watch the video below:
If you are worried about this bypass, the only way to avoid anyone from doing this before Apple patches it, is to disable Control Center access in the Lock screen. It may not be the best solution, but in the meantime- this will stop others from obtaining information from your phone. This tweak does not work with iOS 8 beta, however, it won’t make a difference because iOS 8 won’t be launched until later this year.
