• Subscription Based Music Streaming App unRadio To Be Launched by Rhapsody and T-Mobile

T-Mobile recently just finished off its “Un-Carrier 5.0” event in Seattle, Washington. They announced a new subscription based ad-free Internet radio service and app named Rhapsody unRadio. The company announced that the app will be offered for free to T-Mobile’s unlimited 4G LTE customers. This announcement comes after they recently unveiled a service offering free unlimited data for certain streaming music providers called Music Freedom.

Rhapsody’s unRadio will be launched to the public on June 22nd as a standalone service for both iOS and Android device owners. The service is priced between other similar services like Spotify and Pandora for $5 a month for users not using T-Mobile’s network. However, for users already using T-Mobile’s network, a $1 discount will be applied for the service. And for users on T-Mobile’s ‘Simple Choice Unlimited Plan,’ the service will be free.

Features for the unRadio will have ad-free streaming, playlist creation, and unlimited skips. For offline users, listening is limited to 25 songs out of the 20 millions offered. unRadio is almost half the price compared to Rhapsody’s flagship app for those on the T-Mobile network, but has less music choice. Re/code has noted that Rhapsody will allow in-app subscription purchases at some point, which in return, Apple will be receiving a 30% cut of unRadio’s revenue generated by iOS devices.
