• Apple to Make Retail History in Prague

Although the resounding majority of Apple Stores are located across North America, the company's shift toward emerging markets in Europe, South America, Asia, and the Middle East has been particularly evident in the last twelve months.

As of this writing, Apple has 425 retail stores open and operating in 16 countries (to say nothing of an online store available in more than 40 countries). But with each passing month, it seems the list of nations and territories where Apple has planted its retail flag grows even longer.

On Monday, reports surfaced out of Europe revealing that Prague will soon - and by soon, we mean within days from now - host Apple's first retail operation in the region. That region, of course, is in the former Eastern Bloc of the Soviet Union. Apple's presence will come in the form of a "store-within-a-store" and doors may open in the Czech capital before the end of this week. The store in which Apple's presence will be housed is Czech electronics retailer Alza.

A Czech news outlet reported this morning that Apple will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the grand opening of its new retail location on Friday. Apple is yet to formally comment on the store's opening or whether the company's increasingly close ties to Alza could lead to more store openings across Eastern Europe in the months ahead.
