• Apple Ending Development of Aperture

Apple on Friday confirmed in a written statement that it is concluding development of a familiar photographic fixture.

The writing, of course, has been on the wall since earlier this month when Apple rolled out a new Photos app during WWDC 2014. This app, The Loop's Jim Dalrymple reports, will become the new platform for Apple. In short, it's out with the old and in with the new, as Apple will stop developing its pro photography app known as Aperture.

“With the introduction of the new Photos app and iCloud Photo Library, enabling you to safely store all of your photos in iCloud and access them from anywhere, there will be no new development of Aperture,” an unnamed rep from Apple reportedly told Dalrymple.

Apple says that when Photos for OS X ships next year, "users will be able to migrate their existing Aperture libraries to Photos for OS.”

If your concerns are now turning toward Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro being similarly discontinued, you have nothing to fear. Apple made it "clear" today that development of these hugely popular platforms will not stop.

Well that certainly sucks for pro photographers that use Aperture. I'm not a pro-photo guy but I do use Aperture as it is better than iPhoto for my purposes. Depending on how well this new Photos app is, I might just make the jump to Lightroom or just stick with Aperture for the foreseeable future.

Extremely disappointed by this news. I use aperture for most of my basic edits and spent a fortune at the time for the NIK software plugins. Really don't want to have to switch to lightroom. From what the new Photo's app looked like I don't see it being up to the same standards as aperture.

Apple seem to be slowly leaving the pro market and preferring the consumer shite
