• Shortened iTunes Song Previews Return for Hot New Tracks

Interested in checking out a hot new track on iTunes? If so, you may want to brace yourself for a shorter sample than you've come to expect in recent years.

Although Apple hasn't confirmed a policy change, iTunes users are definitely noticing the difference. Our friends at Apple Insider noticed that Apple has pulled back song previews to just 30 seconds in length for popular new (and even a few older) tunes.

This reality means Apple isn't keeping 90-second song previews available for all tracks available for purchase and download through the online storefront. It isn't clear how long ago Apple made the switch, but social media chatter about the restored 30-second previews has only surfaced this week.

Apple first enabled 90-second samples in 2010, but only for songs longer than 2 and 1/2 minutes (which is the overwhelming majority of tracks on iTunes).
