• Rumor From Taiwan Claims 12-inch Retina MacBook Air Delayed For 2015 Release

Recent rumors from Taiwan have been claiming that the highly anticipated Apple 12-inch MacBook Air may not be released until 2015. The reason is due to processor supply constraints, but the upcoming 11 and 13-inch MacBook Air models will be released on time. East Asia partner suppliers are already receiving parts for mass production of the devices. The rumors come from two separate reports from Taiwan’s Economic Daily News. They claim the 12-inch MacBook Air release date will get pushed back to late 2014 or beginning of 2015. However, a separate report claims that the parts for the 11-inch and 13-inch models have already been sent over to partner supplier Quanta.

The short supply of Intel’s latest 14-nanometer Broadwell chips seems to be the main reason for the 12-inch MacBook Air delay. The report backs up a previous report in June, which also claimed the release date for the 12-inch MacBook Air, would be delayed. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo noted in April that he predicted that Apple would release an ‘ultra-slim’ 12-inch device with a fan-less design and some other additions and changes.

As for the 11 and 13-inch MacBook Air devices, Quanta is apparently receiving chassis, screens and processors from OEMs for assembling in August. Volume shipments are expected to begin sometime at the end of the month.
