• Pegatron Reportedly Lands Deal to Ship 25 Million 4.7-inch iPhone 6 Units

According to a new rumor, Apple supplier Pegatron will be responsible for half of all the 4.7-inch “iPhone 6” production with the rest of the production being in Foxconn’s hands. Taiwanese publication Digitimes reports that Pegatron has won a substantially larger share of Apple orders, more than what was previously projected.

Apple is reportedly expected to ship 50 million 4.7-inch iPhone 6 units by the end of 2014, with both Pegatron and Foxconn landing the order for 25 million handsets each. According to the sources, Pegatron was able to land a larger deal as a result of its stronger relationship with Apple, which has reportedly been looking to shift away some of its supply chain reliance from Foxconn who previously held the majority of the responsibility.

Reports previously mentioned that Pegatron would be seeing as little as 15% of 4.7-inch iPhone 6 orders. The number grew to 30% a little later and recent information pointed towards Pegatron accounting for 35% to 40% of the company’s revenues with production for the iPhone 5C, 4S and iPad mini. The upcoming iPhone order will likely increase the company’s bottom line drastically.

The recent report goes on to state that Foxconn is expected to retain all orders of the larger 5.5-inch iPhone model though production issues may delay the launch of the device. The combined shipments of both the iPhone 4.7-inch and the 5.5-inch are anticipated to reach 70 million to 80 million units by the end of the year. If the sales do hit those numbers, the upcoming Apple release will mark the biggest smartphone launch ever.

As of right now, the next-gen iPhone is expected to make its debut at a special media event on September 9. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.
