• Amazon Acquires Twitch for $970 Million

Amazon buys out game streaming platform, Twitch, on Monday for $970 million in cash, according to TechCrunch. The acquisition doesn’t go into effect until late 2014. A letter from Twitch CEO, Emmett Shear, was posted on Twitch’s website regarding Amazon’s big acquisition. Shear noted that they are hoping for a better Twitch with Amazon’s buyout. The letter stated:

We chose Amazon because they believe in our community, they share our values and long-term vision, and they want to help us get there faster. We're keeping most everything the same: our office, our employees, our brand, and most importantly our independence. But with Amazon's support we'll have the resources to bring you an even better Twitch.
Other companies that were looking to make this deal with Twitch included Yahoo and Google. Twitch started back in 2011 and in the last 3 years, has acquired approximately 55 million active users. Amazon is one busy company as they have launched many new features in the last few months. With the acquisition of Twitch, they are making progress in hosting and creating digital media content.
