• Apple Focuses More Invites on Fashion Reporters for Upcoming September 9th Event

It has been reported by Reuters that Apple has invited a lot more people to their September 9th event when compared to previous years. This year, the Cupertino-based company has chosen the Flint Center for their announcement as opposed to Yerba Buena, which is where they held their events in the past. Apparently the seating capacity has doubled at the Flint Center this year. Reuters also noted that the company is trying to make ‘closer ties to the fashion world’ in efforts to show them their upcoming wearable device dubbed the iWatch.

Several fashion media editors told Reuters they received invitations for the first time to an annual September product-launch, which they took as confirmation of a wristwatch in the wings.

“I assume it’s because they are unveiling a wearable,” said Lea Goldman, features and special projects director for Marie Claire magazine, a first-time invitee. “This suggests Apple is serious about tapping into the fashion world, which often sits on the sidelines.”
It seems like Apple has been trying to tie more connections with the fashion world recently. Just last month, the company held an event exclusively for fashion executives showing them lifestyle applications. Even though Apple invited a lot of fashion invitees, they also invited a lot more technology figures as well this time, including Stratechery’s Ben Thompson and Apple commentator John Siracusa. The Cupertino-based company’s focus on fashion has been apparent in the executives they’ve hired in the past year, including YSL’s Paul Deneve and Burberry’s Angela Ahrendts.
