• Cerner, Athenahealth Tinkering with HealthKit

Despite some initial rollout glitches for HealthKit, some of the biggest names in healthcare are curious -- very curious -- about Apple's upstart health platform.

On Friday, Reuters was first to confirm that Cerner Corp and Athenahealth Inc, two prominent electronic health record providers, are working with Apple to produce applications that connect to HealthKit.

"Cerner and Athenahealth representatives said they are building integrations with HealthKit and working with Apple," the report reads, noting that Apple already has a deal in place with competing electronic health record company Epic Systems.

As we previously reported. Apple has already lined up deals with Stanford and Duke, both of which will be running trials involving HealthKit in the coming months.

As MMi's Akshay Masand confirmed earlier this week, Apple hopes to have all bugs worked out of HealthKit and its first wave of related apps by month's end. To read Akshay's report, click here.
