• Third Gold Color Option May be Coming to the iPad Air

Bloomberg has recently reported that a gold colored 9.7-inch iPad, also known as the iPad Air 2, may be coming to this year’s lineup. Currently the iPad Air is only offered in space gray and silver, but if the rumors are true, the iPad Air 2 will be offered in three official colors. These three colors have been offered since the iPhone 5s and currently match the recently released iPhone 6 lineup. According to Bloomberg:

New versions of the company’s 9.7-inch iPads, anticipated to be unveiled this month, will include gold as a choice of color for the rear metal cover, adding to the silver and gray available for the lighter iPad Air, the people said, asking not to be identified ahead of an announcement. That brings the color palette into line with the iPhone 5s, which come with silver or gold backs for models with a white faceplate, and space gray for those with a black front.
This report goes hand in hand with KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi-Kuo’s prediction from earlier this month. He’s been pretty on point with his last predictions in regards to the iPhone 6, so these rumors may actually be accurate. He also stated that an anti-reflective screen would be offered in the new iPad. Other rumors say that the new iPads will have Touch ID, and it was reported just yesterday that a Touch ID option was secretly found in the iOS 8.1 beta. Apparently, iPad sales have decreased a little this year and the third additional color palette is supposed to be a way to boost those sales.

Sales of the iPad have declined for the past two quarters after soaring from $5 billion when the product was introduced in 2010 to $30 billion in 2012. Last year, iPad sales produced $32 billion.
However, Apple CEO Tim Cook has stated confidently in the past that the decrease in sales is none other than a simple ‘speed bump.’
