Following the announcement
about a month ago that current Rovio CEO Mikael Hed would be stepping down as Rovio's CEO in place of Pekka Rantala following the company's decline in popularity and sales, Rovio has made another unfortunate announcement on Thursday involving some of its staff.
The plan is for Rovio to lay off some 130 of its own workers to help "simplify the organization." They are all Finland-based jobs and account for about 16% of the entire Rovio workforce:

Unfortunately, we also need to consider possible employee reductions of a maximum of 130 people in Finland (approximately 16% of workforce).
The reasoning for the layoffs is because Rovio has not reached its expected goals in branching out the company's interests. Instead, Rovio wants to simplify the company so that it focuses on three main things: games, media, and consumer products. By removing the positions that the company no longer needs, the company can effectively focus on the more important aspects of its marketing.
Rovio has worked on two new games in the recent past, including
Angry Birds Transformers and
Angry Birds Stella. Angry Birds Stella is already out, but Angry Birds Transformers won't be out until October 15th – about two weeks from now.
