• Users Can Check Their iOS Device Activation Lock Status via a New iCloud Tool

Users can now check their deviceís Activation Lock status, making sure that ownership of their older devices can be transferred smoothly and safely. This was recently added to Appleís list of web-based security tools. This new feature is an iCloud tool and is a service thatís part of the companyís Find My iPhone app. It is a great tool for those looking to buy a used device from third parties. Users are asked to input the deviceís IMEI number/serial number, which is then checked to make sure the Activation Lock was not already activated on the device.

Activation Lock is a feature that was introduced in iOS 7 and protects stolen or lost devices so that thieves get locked out without knowing the password and Apple ID associated with the device. In 2014, the Metropolitan law enforcement agencies reported a decrease in stealing of iPhones due to the feature. This feature is automatically enabled in iOS 8 so that users can see the last location the device was at before the battery runs out.

The feature comes in as Apple attempts to improve security for various aspects of their cloud and device security. Have any of you tested the feature out yet? If so, what do you think of it?
