Preorders for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus in China officially started recently. It has already been reported that the top 3 wireless carriers in the country received one million preorders during the first six hours since its availability. The three mobile carriers are China Telecom, China Mobile, and China Unicom according to Tencent News. The official launch date of the devices is October 17th in China, but preorders for the 6 and 6 Plus also started recently on Apple’s Chinese website.
According to a China Telecom representative, over 6,700 authorized resellers on top of mobile carriers will also have the new lineup in stock. However, Tencent News reported that China Telecom alone will be holding onto approximately 6.5 million devices. This number is more than half of the supply going into the country. Reservations began more than a week ago in China, and Fortune reported that 9 million + reservations were taken by 8:30pm that evening. As for which devices, there was a split between the 6 and 6 Plus; 4,626,516 and 4,782,051 respectively.
Many reports had predicted that the larger 5.5-inch device would be more popular in China. So it is a bit surprising to see an almost split between the two. Apple’s highly successful iPhone 6 lineup broke records when first released in the U.S.- but with these numbers for China recently released, it looks like they will be breaking that record during opening weekend.
