On Wednesday, the Pangu jailbreak team released a new Chinese jailbreak tool for Windows that can jailbreak iOS 8.0 through iOS 8.1 on nearly every device that can run the new software. Jay Freeman (Saurik) was quick to update Cydia so that it could be installed manually on a jailbroken iOS 8.x device.
Following up on his work, Freeman has updated Cydia Substrate on Thursday to version 0.9.5013 with full support for iOS 8.0 through iOS 8.1. The update is available in Cydia right now for all users, and should be installed on all iOS 8 devices for any jailbreak tweaks to be installed. At this point in time, the list of jailbreak tweaks that actually work on iOS 8 is very low, so we recommend exercising caution at this point in time.
The iOS 8 version of Cydia Substrate does come with a caveat, however. Since Pangu loads Cydia Substrate AFTER every other process, it is necessary for you to respring your device after each reboot by using the terminal command "killall backboardd" with the free MobileTerminal application from Cydia.
Saurik notes that he and his team are working with Pangu to fix this problem in an upcoming update for the Pangu jailbreak tool. The updated tool should also include Cydia bundled up with the software so that when users actually jailbreak their device(s), they won't have to manually install Cydia to install their favorite Cydia extensions.
