As the Apple Watch is said to be releasing soon, Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer has reportedly decided to create a smartwatch as well. It was reported by Reuters that the watch maker is looking to compete with the Apple Watch and is willing to buy out companies to make a luxury smartwatch. TAG Heuer is under the LVMH group and Jean-Calude Biver, TAG Heuer’s interim chief executive, had previously stated that smartwatches are “too feminine.” He also said that they looked like they were designed by a student in their first trimester" and that luxury watches instead will always offer something timeless.
It was noted that Biver has however changed his mind in how he felt about smartwatches and already has something outlined for the wearable device. According to Reuters,
We started on the project about four months ago. We have done several partnerships and might also do acquisitions," Biver, head of LVMH watches and TAG Heuer interim chief executive, told journalists at the brand's headquarters at La Chaux-de-Fonds in western Switzerland.
