For those that didn’t know, Sony was recently hacked and a lot of information was taken and revealed. The biggest issue that seemed to have come from the hacking was a statement made to Sony about releasing James Franco’s and Seth Rogen’s ‘The Interview.’ Due to the threat received, major movie theaters decided to not play the movie. Instead, the film was made viewable via streaming on sites like YouTube, Google Play, Xbox Video, and more. However it was recently revealed that Sony Pictures had contacted Apple hoping to make some sort of deal on releasing it on iTunes, according to The New York Times. But the Cupertino-based company "was not interested, at least on a speedy time table."
It was noted in the New York Times that the White House was asked by Sony to help seal the deal with Apple. The Cupertino-based company has not made any statement in regards to this yet. The reason the film was not shown in major theaters to begin with was because it’s about Seth Rogen and James Franco going to North Korea to assassinate Kim Jong-Un. Sony received a threat about attacking theaters if shown and therefore decided to cancel it. The Hackers were said to be from North Korea but the U.S. government said no credible terrorist threat was found.
