• Apple Raises the Price of its Developer Program and Products in Several Countries

As the New Year begins, Apple has made several price adjustments to its products and services led by an increased yearly fee for the company’s developer programs in several countries in Europe as noted by the German blog, Apfelpage. German developers appear to be facing a €99 ($119) per year subscription charge for Apple's various developer programs, up from a previous €80 ($96) subscription fee. This price change ends up affecting all European markets as Apple typically has consistent pricing across member countries except for occasional differences due to variations in tax rates. Apple’s developer programs in the US are priced at $99 per year.

The price increase is also in effect for the UK where the price has been increased from £60 ($92) a year to £79 ($12) as noted by the folks over at 9to5Mac. Previously the European developer program has been about on par with or slightly above the cost in the US when adjusted for currency rates. Since the currencies around the world have decreased compared to that of the US dollar, Apple’s price increases in those countries will help reset the pricing matrix but also increase costs for developers that are overseas.

Furthermore, prices of Apple products are also seeing slight hikes in a few countries. According to Apple Toolbox, the Cupertino California company has increased the price of products like the Mac, iPhone and iPod in Turkey, where the company’s products already among the highest priced in the world. The increase in prices may not stop there either as the Turkish Minister of Economy recently announces a plan to gain favor for products made in Turkey by introducing taxes on imported smartphones, computers and tablets.

Norwegian consumers will also be facing higher prices for Apple products with the new iMac and Retina 5k Display and iPhone 6 seeing 8.3% and 12% increases respectively. The MacBook Pro with Retina display ended up receiving the biggest price jump seen in the past going from 10,790 kr to 12,590 kr, which is roughly a 14% increase in the cost of the device.

If you didn’t already know, Apple has been known to adjust the price of its products alongside any currency fluctuations. A prime example of this is just last month when the Russian rubel saw a sharp drop in value which caused Apple to temporarily cease sales of ts products than reintroduce them with an increase cost. Although far less dramatic, the price inflations seen in other parts of the world were likely to occur with the weakening of the Turkish lira and Norwegian krone. It’s not entirely clear why the company decided to increase the price in certain countries but not in others.

We’ll have to wait and see what other changes Apple will make in the future.

      are Apple getting greedy again?

What ruined Apple was not growth … They got very greedy … Instead of following the original trajectory of the original vision, which was to make the thing an appliance and get this out there to as many people as possible … they went for profits. They made outlandish profits for about four years. What this cost them was their future. What they should have been doing is making rational profits and going for market share.”

30% increases seem fair. It's not like Apple already makes a shedload of cash off the back of developers is it? Oh wait ......
