• Apple Hires Former HP Veteran to Push for More Corporate Sales

Apple appears to be continuing to push harder to sell hardware to enterprise and government markets – a move which was recently seen with the hire of a longtime executive at Hewlett-Packard. According to Re/code, Apple confirmed the hire of former HP senior vice president, John Solomon, but declined to confirm his role or title. Sources informed Arik Hesseldahl that Solomon will be “central” in Apple’s efforts to improve sales to major corporations and large government agencies.

The report also suggested that Solomon may play a part in international sales of the Apple Watch, which is currently set to his the market early this year. These claims seemed a bit less certain but remain unconfirmed.

The Cupertino California company’s move to hire Solomon was portrayed as “significant” considering Apple has historically conceded corporate sales to competing, cheaper options in the tech industry. Solomon has spent 20 years working at Hewlett Packard and eventually served as a vice president in the company’s printing and personal systems group.

Although Macs have struggled to gain significant traction in the enterprise market, both the iPhone and iPad lineups have paved serious inroads into the corporate world. The success was all attributed largely to the adoption of “bring your own device” policies at work. A recent study revealed that Apple’s iOS platform dominates mobile platforms in the corporate world and pulls out ahead of Android, Windows and BlackBerry. To continue this success, Apple has partnered with IBM for enterprise deployment, complete with a wide range of “MobileFirst” applications which are targeted towards businesses. The partnership will also help see IBM provide support and assist deployment across a wide range of business types.

We’ll have to see how Apple’s recent hire and the partnership with IBM help its efforts in the enterprise market.
