• Skype Releases Version 5.9 Update for iOS With Interface Improvements

On Monday, Microsoft announced and launched version 5.9 of its Skype application for iPhone. The new update, which Skype discusses in a new public blog post at this link, adds several user interface improvements to make using the application faster and easier than before, as well as general bug fixes to make the application more reliable.

Among some of the new improvements are changes to the dial pad, which make it so that you can start inputting a phone number into the dial pad and the application will automatically start suggesting contacts from your contact list that match the number you're typing in real time.

Additionally, the chat picker is also being given improvements; Skype notes that the new chat picker now gives you a phone and video button at the top of the interface so that you can start conversations with your contacts quicker and easier than ever before.

The blog post also details that Skype is interested in looking for people that will help test pre-release versions of the application. The only requirement is that the user is 18 years of age or older, and they must fill out this form.

If you're already a Skype for iOS user, then this update is waiting for you under the Updates tab of the App Store application. If you're on iOS 8 and you have automatic updates enabled, then the update should have already been installed for you. Alternatively, you can download the latest version of Skype for iOS for free from this App Store link.

It still doesn't search your iOS contacts.
