• World's Largest Smartphone Makers Go to Apple and Samsung in 2014 Q4

Recent reports from Strategy Analytics claim that Cupertino-based company Apple and rival Korean-based company Samsung are tied for Q4 2014 in being the largest smartphone makers in the world. The news is based off of total global shipments and both companies had apparently shipped 74.5 million devices from October to December of last year. This is not the first time Apple and Samsung have tied for this title as it happened previously back in 2011 Q4 as well.

Apple’s flagship iPhone brought in a record-breaking first quarter of the fiscal year, with many Android users even switching over to Apple for the larger 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus. It is the first time the Cupertino-based company created a larger device, as Samsung is known for their bigger than average phones. While Apple gained more sales for the latest iPhone lineup, Samsung reportedly had a 27% decline in sales. The number of actual Samsung devices shipped is unknown as the company stopped reporting on shipments years ago.

Strategy Analytics reported that in 2014, approximately 1.3 billion smartphones were shipped, with 380 million units just in Q4. The larger iPhone 6 Plus has definitely been a big hit for China as Apple claimed that their online sales in China was more than the last five years added together. The Cupertino-based company had a successful last quarter to say the least.

That's pretty impressive for Apple considering they only sell premium priced phones and Samsung sells a lot of budget models in addition to the premium models.

That chart would be even more impressive as a graph with trend lines
