• Under Armour Makes Digital Health Power Play

Even Apple has to be a little bit jealous about this one. Given Apple's quest to become a major player in the mobile health arena, Under Armour -- a global titan in sports performance products -- just put itself in position to establish the world's largest digital health and fitness community.

How so? By acquiring Endomondo and MyFitnessPal for $475 million. These buys will further enable the Under Armour "to provide unparalleled health and fitness data and insight, in support of its universal mission to make all athletes better."

Incredibly, the pool of registered users brought into the Under Armour brand through these acquisitions totals over 100 million people. MyFitnessPal has 80 million registered users and Endomondo currently hosts 20 million registered users.

"Under Armour's demonstrated global leadership in health and fitness innovation is greatly enhanced with the addition of Endomondo and MyFitnessPal, as we continue to redefine and elevate the Connected Fitness experience for millions of people around the world," said Kevin Plank, Chairman and CEO of Under Armour in a news release.

The latest acquisition power play is expected to close sometime during this quarter.
