• Apple Discontinues MagSafe to MagSafe 2 Converter [U]

It has been reported that Apple’s MagSafe to MagSafe 2 converter has been discontinued on its United States and Canada Online Store this week. When a MagSafe 2-equipped MacBook Pro or MacBook Air is connected to a Cinema or Thunderbolt Display, it needs the converter in order to charge. On Apple’s website, the converter is listed as discontinued but available for pick up at a local Apple Store. However, if the company discontinued it on its website it may mean that they will discontinue it in store as well- but nothing has been confirmed as of yet. We would suggest picking up a converter soon if you need one because we’re not sure how much longer the stores will have it either.

This isn’t the first time Apple discontinued products from their online store quietly and without an announcement. A MagSafe to MagSafe 2 converter is included in the Thunderbolt Display box when purchased, but users will no longer be able to purchase another one if something goes wrong with their original one. The Cupertino-based company may have something else lined up for Cinema and Thunderbolt Display users. With that being said, we will keep you posted with any new information in regards to this.

Update: It seems like the converter has been added back to Apple's Online Store in both the U.S. and Canada. We're not sure why it wasn't available before, but the item is officially back in stock for shipping.
