• Apple Pay at Oracle Arena in Oakland Debuted by Eddy Cue

Apple’s VP of Internet Software and Services Eddy Cue recently visited the Oracle Arena in Oakland to show off Apple Pay and manage the rollout of the payment system. Cue was wearing Apple’s highly anticipated Apple Watch in the stainless steel version and gave details on how their successful mobile payment system would work with the device. According to Cue, the wearable device won’t need a PIN or Touch ID to authorize payments using Apple Pay. He noted that as long as the device is close to its paired iPhone and unlocked, payments can be made.

The reason a PIN and Apple ID won’t be needed to confirm the user’s identity is because the iPhone will unlock the wearable device. There will be a button on the side of the Apple Watch that users will need to double tap in order to activate the Apple Pay transaction. Cue also noted that the mobile payment system will work on the iPhone 5, 5c, and 5s when paired with the watch. However, because these devices do not support NFC payments, it will require a PIN code to authenticate the transaction.
