Pioneer recently announced that its second-generation aftermarket CarPlay and Android Auto systems are now available at select retailers across the United States. The company’s refreshed NEX lineup (Networked Entertainment eXperience) in-dash multimedia receives are the first to offer customers the flexibility of choosing between CarPlay or Android Auto as opposed to having to make a decision prior to purchase.
The new lineup for 2015 includes the following models:
- AVIC-8100NEX
- AVIC-7100NEX
- AVH-4100NEX
… all of which support both CarPlay and Android Auto. The company also released the following CarPlay compatible only models:
- AVIC-6100NEX
- AVIC-5100NEX
The in-dash receivers feature advanced Bluetooth capabilities, an AppRadio mode, MirrorLink compatibility, iDatalink Maestro support, the ability to stream Pandora and SiriusXM and FLAC file playback capabilities.
For those of you who didn’t know, as of right now, Pioneer and Alpine Electronics are the only official providers for aftermarket in-dash CarPlay systems. Those of you looking to pickup one of the new generation NEX aftermarket systems can do so from an authorized Pioneer reseller anywhere across the United States. The models range between $700 and $1,400 in price depending on the model you choose.
Although CarPlay has yet to become popular, it does offer a slew of useful features to iOS users in the car. This includes the ability to use Maps, Phone, Messages, Music and more to your car dashboard when paired with an iPhone 5 or later. Have any of you tried CarPlay out? If so, how do you like using it? If not, do you plan on trying it in the future?
