With a potential Apple TV refresh now widely expected in June during Apple's WWDC, you can tell there's ample attention being played to the streaming content market by providers of competing set-top boxes.
With Apple expected to bring everything from a dedicated app store to voice control to its refreshed Apple TV hardware, here's what we can tell you is new from Roku, one of Apple's most formidable opponents in this area.
Over the last 24 hours, Roku has rolled out refreshed versions of Roku 3 ($99) and Roku 2 ($69). The biggest change for Roku 3 is the arrival of remote-based voice search. For Roku 2, the primary change is that it is now as fast as the Roku 3.
So, all told, nothing groundbreaking here. But the refreshes are still refreshing -- especially when you consider that Apple TV hasn't seen a hardware update in three years.
