• Sling TV to Reportedly Get HBO Live and On-Demand Content Starting Saturday

As mentioned at the start of April, Dish Network’s Web-based television service Sling TV will be adding HBO to its list of partner providers later this week, offering both linear and video-on-demand content to paying customers. Accessing HBO through Sling TV will come as a $15 add-on (per month) to the service’s core $20 per month package which already includes programming from the following channels: ESPN, ESPN2, TNT, TBS, Food Network, HGTV, Travel Channel, El Rey, Maker, Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, Disney Channel, Galavision, CNN and ABC Family. It should be noted that along with select set-top boxes, the company has an iOS app for on-the-go viewing as well.

One of the big things to note here is that despite HBO offering 13 different channels of content through cable and similar services, Sling TV subscribers will only have access to one channel. That being said, the $15 fee comes with HBO’s entire video-on-demand library so you’ll still be able to see much of what HBO has to offer.

For those of you who didn’t know, Sling TV made its debut in February as an over-the-top subscription based streaming service that provides cord cutters a more flexible alternative to having to pay for cable. At its “Spring Forward” event in March, Apple ended up announcing a similar content partnership with HBO that netted exclusive Apple TV and iOS device access to HBO Now for $14.99 per month. The subscription service ended up launching this past Tuesday.

The recent news is the latest development in what seems to have become a broad push for Internet TV or services that work against traditional cable bundles for Web-based delivery to set-top streamers, mobile devices and connected TVs. We’ll have to wait and see how things change going forward.
